The Dental Admission Test (DAT)

The DAT is a standardized test used to compare your preparation for dental school with that of your peers. Success on the DAT is a key component of your dental school preparations.

You will normally take the Dental Admission Test (DAT) in the fall or spring of your junior year. It is standardized test covering many of your required courses. It has a biology, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning, and perceptual ability section.

The DAT application includes a sample test which will give you a feel for what you will be taking. You can study for the DAT and even take preparation courses with companies like Kaplan. Yet, the easiest way to do well is to work hard in your science courses and study for long term retention (i.e. don't cram your way through your courses).

For more information see the Publications section under both ADA Publications and DAT Preparation.
