Coursework

Dentistry requires a mental and physical work ethic which will show up in your academic progress, personal development, and general preparation for dental school.

Classes: While you can major in anything, *most schools have a minimum requirement of:

1yr Biology (with lab)
1yr General Chemistry (with lab)
1yr Organic Chemistry (with lab)
1yr Physics (with lab)

We strongly recommend that you prepare yourself with additional coursework. The core of the dental basic science curriculum consists of Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and Biochemistry. Additional preparation in any of these areas would prove extremely beneficial.

*Many schools have variations in their requirements (such as English Composition, Calculus, Biochemistry, or Social Science classes). Start looking at the admission requirements of individual schools to ensure that you meet them.

A Typical Schedule of the Basic Requirements:

Freshman Year (Fall) Freshman Year (Spring)
Biology I
General Chemistry I
Biology II
General Chemistry II
Sophomore Year (Fall) Sophomore Year (Spring)
Physics I
Organic Chemistry I
Physics II
Organic Chemistry II
